LIBDEM ELECTION SUCCESS
A remarkable thing happened in last year’s Sedgefield By-Election to replace Tony Blair as MP – the LibDems came from third to second place, pushing the Tories into third. Forget the Tory “revival”, that’s mainly in the South of England. Here in the North East it’s the LibDems who continue to challenge Labour’s monopoly of power at local level.
LibDems now control Durham City and Newcastle City Councils and are the main opposition on most local councils in the North East. There are far more LibDem councillors than Tories or Independents in the region, and many councils don’t have a single Tory councillor.
