Anyone traveling in to Woodham and Aycliffe from the North and East through Rushyford cannot fail to see just how inadequate is the C35 road –anyone that is, except Labour-controlled Durham County Council.

Despite agreeing that the C35 needed upgrading 15 YEARS AGO, the County Council has classified this vital access road from Rushyford as “A very small fish in a large pond when it comes to funding road improvement.” It seems we are still swimming in the same pond! It is time priority was given to this road. The volume of traffic has increased significantly and will continue to do so, due to the planned building on the Western side of the town as well as Woodham.

Roads and footpaths are in a shoddy state across the County with a backlog of over £70m in repairs. Under Labour, the state of our roads and footpaths has been in steady decline. But the effects of transport impact on all our lives. The ability to move easily between locations is what enables us to fulfil our potential through work and leisure. On the other hand, the impact of traffic and congestion can blight our communities. Policies must be put in place and combined to enable the first and mitigate the second.
