Post Office closures - Labour seats at risk
“Hundreds of Labour councillors could lose their seats in the local elections because of the Government’s controversial plans to close thousands of post offices” [Daily Telegraph 8th April 2008].
Ninety Labour MPs (including Sedgefield’s Phil Wilson) have campaigned locally against the government’s plans to close 2,500 local post offices. In last month’s Commons vote, eleven of these voted to halt the closures, 17 abstained and one did not vote. To their eternal shame, 61 of the Labour MPs who claim to be opposed to post office closures in their own constituencies (including Sedgefield’s Phil Wilson) VOTED TO CONTINUE THE CLOSURES.
Judge for yourselves who is telling the truth. Hansard does not lie.
