LABOUR MP HYPOCRITE OVER POST

OFFICE CLOSURES

Sedgefield’s Labour MP Phil Wilson has disgraced himself by voting for the closure of 2,500 Post Offices – while at the same time claiming his support for keeping open Simpasture Post Office in his own constituency.

WE SAY LABOUR MP PHIL WILSON IS A HYPOCRITE!

Wilson Simpasture Post Office - threat of closure

Sedgefield's Labour MP Phil Wilson said “I will do everything I can to ensure it [Simpasture PO] stays open” – everything, that is, except voting for it!

The Northern Echo [21st March] reported: “Cheryl Clark, sub-postmistess of the Simpasture branch in Newton Aycliffe, said Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson had previously been very supportive of their campaign to stay open. She said: ‘I just cannot believe it. I am absolutely fuming. He [Phil Wilson] came along to a meeting and said he was fighting for it to be saved, and then he goes down to Parliament and then he votes with Gordon Brown. It is an absolute load of rubbish. He is running with the foxes and playing with the hounds. I think this will cost him big time at the next election.’” Cheryl Clark later retracted her comments after meeting with Phil Wilson.

The Tories are no better. When they were last in office, they closed 4,500 local Post Offices. And they recently voted against a £150m government subsidy, without which even more than 2,500 Post Offices would now be in line for closure.

THE SOLUTION: Aycliffe LibDems say that the new Unitary County Council must consider taking over some or all of the 14 local Post Offices, including Simpasture, from 1st April next year. If agreed, the government MUST allow these essential local services to remain open in the meantime.
