TOWN CENTRE A MESS

 

Aycliffe Town centre is in a mess – empty and boarded-up shops and health centre, broken and uneven paving slabs, too many pigeons – including dead ones, a general air of neglect. The sooner that owners Freshwater bring forward their “Master Plan” the better.

Here is a chance to bring new life to the town centre to bring in new services and to improve and possibly relocate old ones. With the abolition of Sedgefield Borough Council and the advent of the new County Unitary Authority, this would be a superb opportunity to provide the facility for Aycliffe residents to access all local government services in a convenient central location.

 

What is needed is a “hub” in a convenient location in the town centre. One solution could be to use part of the Leisure Centre, saving on cost. Taking over existing shops would involve relocating existing tenants, resulting in delays and extra costs.
